Beth Collins and Jim Wood formed SUMMMERLAND GROUP,
INC. in 2006 with the intention of opening a natural burial
cemetery. On November 1, 2007, they purchased 58 acres at
4600 Davis Road in Bibb County. Twenty five acres will be
developed as SUMMERLAND NATURAL CEMETERY. Ten acres
of the 25 acres will be for full body burials and the remaining
acreage will be for cremation burials or scattering of cremains.
Summerland Natural Cemetery will have one of the lowest burial
densities of any cemetery in the United States. There will be a
maximum of 75 burials per acre for a total of 750. Some
conventional cemeteries have several thousand burials on the
same acreage. Summerland is scheduled to open in March of
2009.
